The Water’s Edge started with a small group in the basement of a home near 173rd and Harrison Street. Within a few months a leadership team was gathered and additional small groups were launched.
The early teams prayed as if it depended on God and worked as if it depended on them. They focused on investing in friendships and inviting people to learn about Christ. The goal was to achieve a critical mass of people to launch a weekly worship experience.
The Water’s Edge launched weekly worship at Russell Middle School on September 10th, 2006. Since that time, we have worshiped at places like the clubhouse at Tiburon golf course, Skutt Catholic High School, and our current locations: Millard West High School and Palisades Elementary School.
Our story is so much more than how we began and where we have been. We have dozens of small groups that meet all over the city. We have collected well over 100,000 pounds of food for hungry people in Omaha. We partner with three local ministries—The Hope Center for Kids, Together Omaha, and Release Ministries—and serve them however we can. We don’t believe the church is a building, rather a group of people who do their best to love God, other each, and the others.
In 2013, we purchased of 23 acres of land on Harrison Street between 195th and 198th Streets. This will be our future church home. In 2014, the church launched a building team to begin planning our church campus as well as Phase 1 of our building plan. We are excited to share our property and facility with the community and are even more excited to welcome anybody who wants to gather, grow, and serve with us.
