Youth Ministry at The Water's Edge

About WE Youth

Middle School and High School isn’t easy. Life moves fast and everything changes during these years. As adolescents make the transition from children to young adults, they need people in their lives to help navigate the changes, challenges, struggles and questions they’ll face.

The youth ministry at The Water’s Edge (WE Youth) is a place where middle school and high school students can find a place to belong. Our staff and volunteers are caring adults who are passionate about helping connect youth to God and others, engaging them with fun activities and through Christlike relationships, and growing in faith through meaningful messages and conversations relevant to their lives.

WEYouth is for all students currently in 6th-12thgrades. If you have any questions, or would like some information, please email chad@weomaha.com

Middle School Youth

Our Middle School youth meet at The Water’s Edge on Wednesdays from 6:45-8:15pm during the school year. On these nights, Middle Schoolers gather to connect with friends, build new relationships, and engage in conversations that help them further develop their grasp of God’s word and its relevance in their lives.

High School Youth

Our High School youth meet at The Water’s Edge on Wednesday evenings from 6:45-8:15pm during the school year. Each week we gather for a time of connecting with and caring for one another, engaging in learning and conversation, and discovering how God’s word applies to our lives and relationships.

More About LIFEgroups

WE believe students grow best when given the opportunity to engage one another in conversation and ask questions in a safe and caring environment. Our youth LIFEgroups are made up of students in the same grade and gender and are each led by 2-3 adult mentors who choose to invest in and walk beside our students as they navigate their middle school and high school years. Each of our adult leaders has completed our Safe Gatherings volunteer training and gets weekly updates and guides for leading their groups.

Weekend Retreats & Activities

Some of the biggest highlights of every year happen on weekend retreats & trips. Youth travel to a camp or retreat center for a weekend designed to help them connect with others, get away from their everyday life, and spend time experiencing and learning about how much God loves them and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

Middle School Retreat

You’ll connect with friends, experience amazing worship, grow in your faith, and learn more about what it means to follow Jesus; all in a fun, distraction free environment. This retreat is open to students currently in grades 6-8.

Summer Camps & Mission Trips

Get ready for one of the greatest weeks of your life. Each summer, our students pack into vans and head out for a week of serving others, sharing their faith, and growing closer to God through trips that land them working with local service and community outreach organizations, doing home repairs, and spending time experiencing for themselves, and showing others, how great God’s love is.

High School Mission Trip

Every summer, high school students from The Water’s Edge travel together outside the Omaha area for a week of service and mission. These trips involve traveling across the country, as we build and grow friendships with one another.

During the week, students spend time serving others through home repair projects, daily programs focused on our theme for the week with games, activities, a message and music, and devotion times with our work crews & youth group.

Our 2024 High School Mission Trip will be a Home Repair Trip with Group Workcamps to Winchester, KY from July 6-14, 2024. The cost of the trip is $1075.00 with discounts available for early registration and three WE Youth sponsored fundraisers.

The trip is open to students who will complete 8th grade or higher during the 2023-24 school year. For additional information, please contact chad@weomaha.com.

What Is Confirmation?

Confirmation refers to a person’s decision to respond to God’s grace with intentional commitment, publicly reaffirming his or her baptismal vows before the congregation. It involves a series of gatherings and time of preparation to help students learn and understand what it means to walk in their Christian faith; the history and vision of our church, and affirm the baptismal and membership vows they will publicly profess.

Confirmation Preparation is a series of gatherings and time of preparation for students who are ready to publicly profess faith in Jesus Christ, and prepare for or affirm their baptism.

When and Where

Confirmation at The Water’s Edge takes place during each school year. It involves regular participation in the life of the church and student ministry, service to the community, personal reflection, mentoring, and attendance at confirmation preparation seminars.

Registration for Confirmation Preparation opens on the first night of WE Youth in August.

How To Sign Up

Confirmation is open to any student who is currently in 8th-12th grades and is ready to publicly profess faith in Jesus Christ, reaffirm the vows made at his or her Baptism, and affirm the membership vows of The Water’s Edge.

Volunteers

WE Youth volunteers are the heart of our ministry to youth. Whether leading a small group, mentoring a confirmation student, greeting students, hosting a LIFEgroup, or leading on a service project, camp or mission trip, there’s always room for caring adults to invest in our youth. If you’re interested in how you can make a difference in helping our youth grow into fully devoted followers of Jesus, please email chad@weomaha.com.
