Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

The Pandemic of 2020 has reshaped the world we live in and is challenging individuals and organizations across the globe. The church is not immune. Companies and non-profits are responding with new ideas and are creating new plans. After a season of prayer, The Water’s Edge is using an old idea and an old plan: A House Church.

The earliest record of the church had people meeting in people’s homes and in the temple courts. A full sanctuary with hundreds of people multiple times on Sunday morning may not be possible for a while, but what if God has something different in mind for this season of our lives?

House Church will expand on our existing small groups and create new groups too. Some of these groups will meet in people’s homes. Others will gather online. Some groups will meet in outdoor spaces. Other groups will gather at the church building where there is plenty of room to spread out. Some groups will meet twice a week and others will meet twice a month.

The advantages of House Church are many:

• It provides community and helps people make friends.
• It will be the best way for many to experience faith formation.
• It is a better and more sustainable model for caring.
• It will position The Water’s Edge of growth and impact when the pandemic

This is a critical time in our church’s short, but rich history. We hope existing groups will become house churches, new leaders will emerge and become house church leaders, and that people affiliated with The Water’s Edge will become house church participants.

House Church Leader Training

The Water’s Edge is commited to providing on-going training for our House Church Leaders.

To help you navigate what the new House Church model will look like for you as a leader, WE will be having a special House Church Leader training. WE will be offering an in-person and online option for training on the following dates:

• Sunday, September 20, 11:45 AM – In-Person (boxed lunch will be served)
• Thursday, October 1, 8:00 PM – Online (a Zoom link will be emailed prior to the training)

Even if you have been a long-time life group leader, WE ask that you make plans to attend one of the training sessions. So WE know who will be attending in-person and online, please register for your preferred training using the button below.

As part of our commitment to providing you with on-going training and support, all House Church Leaders will be divided in to cohorts with other House Church Leaders. These cohorts will be led by WE Omaha staff and meet regularly to discuss concerns, support one another as well as share ideas and on-going training. WE Omaha staff will be in touch regarding your assigned cohort.
