WE Serve Sunday has always been a favorite weekend here at The Water’s Edge. The church leaves the building to go out into the community to serve with mission partners all over the city. WE Serve Saturday’s will expand this tradition from once a year to once a month!
Every second Saturday of the month, WE will be going out into the community to serve and share the love of Jesus with others. We will have a variety of opportunities to serve, including packaging diapers, building beds, cooking meals and more.
Check out the WE Serve Saturday schedule below and sign-up for upcoming serving projects. Questions? Contact Leandra.

July 10th – Habitat For Humanity
WE will be helping on a local Habitat for Humanity build project to create affordable, safe, and stable housing for families in need. Volunteers may be helping with a variety of tasks, such as framing, siding, hanging drywall, and painting. No tools or experience necessary, Habitat supervisors will train everyone at the site. Locations will be sent out the week before the build.
Through Habitat for Humanity, whole neighborhoods improve and completely transform. Through this transformation, families achieve the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life.
- Time: 8:00am-3:30pm
- Ages: Must be at least 16 years old.
- Location: Work sites addresses will be sent out the week of the project.
July 10th – The Big Garden
The Big Garden’s mission is to cultivate food security by developing community gardens, creating opportunities to serve, and providing education on issues related to hunger. As of today, The Big Garden has helped to establish more than 170 community gardens in urban and rural communities throughout Nebraska, Kansas, and Southwest Iowa. Our goal is to reduce hunger by increasing access to fresh, healthy produce and teaching people to grow, cook, & preserve their own.
Volunteers will learn about food insecurity, community gardens, and help out with some weeding, watering, planting, harvesting, and mulching in one of Omaha’s community gardens!
- Time: 9am-Noon
- Ages: All ages are welcome
- Location: 5602 Read St, Omaha, NE 68152
August 14th – Sleep in Heavenly Peace
Description: Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) builds, assembles, and delivers top-notch beds with a mattress and bedding to children without a bed of their own. Many of these kids were sleeping on the couch or floor before receiving their new bed. Their motto is, “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!”
WE have an opportunity to help make that a reality in Omaha. WE are hosting a SHP Build Day on August 14th at The Water’s Edge. These Build Days include cutting down lumber, sanding, assembling, staining and branding these new beds. You can sign up for a time slot using the links below.
- Times: 8:30-Noon and Noon-4:00pm
- Ages: Ages 12 and up
- Location: The Water’s Edge Church, 19600 Harrison St. Gretna, NE 68028
October 9th – The Ronald McDonald House
Description: The Ronald McDonald House provides a welcoming housing option for families when they are away from home because their child needs medical care in Omaha. They lighten the load for these families by providing meals, transportation and more.
WE will have three crews cooking meals for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House. Two crews will prepare freezer meals for later in the week. The last crew will cook and serve a hot meal for dinner. Meals will be chosen by groups after signing up.
